The plural of appendix is \u201cappendices.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In an <a href=https://www.scribbr.com/"https:////www.scribbr.com//category//apa-style///">APA Style<\/a> paper, appendices are placed at the very end, after the <a href=https://www.scribbr.com/"https:////www.scribbr.com//apa-style//apa-reference-page///">reference list<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img src=https://www.scribbr.com/"https:////www.scribbr.com//wp-content//uploads//2020//10//location-of-appendices.png/" alt=\"Location of appendices\" width=\"660\" class=\"aligncenter mt-4 mb-5\" \/><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Do I need an appendix?<\/h2>\n<p>You don\u2019t always need to include any appendices. An appendix should present information that supplements the reader\u2019s understanding of your research but is not essential to the argument of your <a href=https://www.scribbr.com/"//?cat_ID=14816\%22>paper<\/a>. Essential information is included in the main text.<\/p>\n<p>For example, you might include some of the following in an appendix:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Full <a href=https://www.scribbr.com/"https:////www.scribbr.com//methodology//transcribe-interview///">transcripts of interviews<\/a> you conducted (which you can <a href=https://www.scribbr.com/"https:////www.scribbr.com//working-with-sources//how-to-quote///">quote<\/a> from in the main text)<\/li>\n<li>Documents used in your research, such as <a href=https://www.scribbr.com/"https:////www.scribbr.com//methodology//survey-research///">questionnaires<\/a>, instructions, tests, or scales<\/li>\n<li>Detailed statistical data (often presented in <a href=https://www.scribbr.com/"https:////www.scribbr.com//apa-style//tables-and-figures///">tables or figures<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Detailed descriptions of equipment used<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You should refer to each appendix at least once in the main text. If you don\u2019t refer to any information from an appendix, it should not be included.<\/p>\n<p>When you discuss information that can be found in an appendix, state this the first time you refer to it:<\/p>\n<figure class=\"kb-textbox border-left purple\"><figcaption>Referring to an appendix in-text<\/figcaption>Participant A stated that he had often felt \u201calienated\u201d from his peers due to his racial background (see Appendix B for full interview transcripts).<\/figure>\n<p>Note that, if you refer to the same interviews again, it\u2019s not necessary to mention the appendix each time.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"format-example\">Appendix format example<\/h2>\n<p>The appendix label appears at the top of the page, bold and centered. On the next line, include a descriptive title, also bold and centered.<\/p>\n<p>The text is presented in general <a href=https://www.scribbr.com/"https:////www.scribbr.com//apa-style//format///">APA format<\/a>: left-aligned, double-spaced, and with page numbers in the top right corner. Start a new page for each new appendix.<\/p>\n<p>The example image below shows how to format an APA Style appendix.<\/p>\n<p><img src=https://www.scribbr.com/"https:////www.scribbr.com//wp-content//uploads//2022//02//apa_appendix.webp/" alt=\"Example of an appendix in APA format\" width=\"660\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-306485 mt-4 mb-5\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"organizing-labeling\">Organizing and labeling your appendices<\/h2>\n<p>If you include just one appendix, it is simply called \u201cAppendix\u201d and referred to as such in-text:<\/p>\n<figure class=\"kb-textbox border-left purple\"><figcaption>Referring to a single appendix<\/figcaption>(see Appendix)<\/figure>\n<p>When more than one appendix is included, they are labeled \u201cAppendix A,\u201d \u201cAppendix B,\u201d and so on.<\/p>\n<p>Present and label your appendices in the order they are referred to in the main text.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"labeling\">Labeling tables and figures in appendices<\/h3>\n<p>An appendix may include (or consist entirely of) <a href=https://www.scribbr.com/"https:////www.scribbr.com//apa-style//tables-and-figures///">tables and\/or figures<\/a>. Present these according to the same formatting rules as in the main text.<\/p>\n<p>Tables and figures included in appendices are labeled differently, however. Use the appendix\u2019s letter in addition to a number. Tables and figures are still numbered separately and according to the order they\u2019re referred to in the appendix.<\/p>\n<p>For example, in Appendix A, your tables are Table A1, Table A2, etc; your figures are Figure A1, Figure A2, etc.<\/p>\n<p>The numbering restarts with each appendix: For example, the first table in Appendix B is Table B1; the first figure in Appendix C is Figure C1; and so on. If you only have one appendix, use A1, A2, etc.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to refer specifically to a table or figure from an appendix in the main text, use the table or figure\u2019s label (e.g. \u201csee Table A3\u201d).<\/p>\n<p>If an appendix consists entirely of a single table or figure, simply use the appendix label to refer to the table or figure.
